Number a PDF without changing its layout
This tool stamps a small page label onto the PDF you already have. It does not reflow paragraphs, move images or replace your original file. Choose a top or bottom position, use plain numbers or a “Page 1 of 10” label, and download a separate numbered copy.
How to add page numbers to a PDF
- Select one PDF from your device.
- Choose the label position and number format.
- Set the first page, last page and starting number if the document needs a custom sequence.
- Select Add page numbers, then open the downloaded PDF to check the result.
Skip a cover page or continue another document
The PDF page and the printed number are separate settings. For example, set the first PDF page to 2 and the starting number to 1 when page one is an unnumbered cover. If this PDF continues an earlier volume, leave the first PDF page at 1 and start numbering at the next required number.
What “of total” counts
The total refers to the selected numbering sequence, not necessarily every sheet in the file. If you number PDF pages 2 through 11 starting at 1, the last label is “10 of 10.” This makes the visible labels consistent even when a title page is excluded.
Private browser processing
The numbering is performed locally in your browser using an established PDF library. Your document is not uploaded to FigureOwl, and no account or watermark is added. Large or complex files can use substantial device memory, so close unused tabs if processing is slow.
Check the downloaded copy
Page numbers are drawn over the existing page. They do not create extra footer space. Open the result and inspect pages that already contain headers, footers, signatures or crop marks. Change the position or edge distance if a label overlaps existing content.
