Add a clear status label to a PDF
A text watermark can identify a working draft, mark a sample, distinguish a copy or show that a document is confidential. FigureOwl writes the label onto the selected pages and creates a separate PDF, leaving your original file unchanged.
How to watermark a PDF
- Select one PDF from your device.
- Enter your own text or choose a common preset.
- Adjust the position, size, color, transparency and angle.
- Choose the page range, then select Add watermark to download the new copy.
Choose readable settings
A centered diagonal label is useful when the mark must be obvious. A smaller horizontal label near an edge is less intrusive. Lower opacity keeps the underlying text readable, while higher opacity makes the status more prominent. Always inspect pages with charts, signatures or dark backgrounds before sharing the result.
Watermark only the pages you need
Use the first and last page fields when a cover, appendix or signature page should remain untouched. Leaving the last page empty applies the mark through the end of the document. Page numbers refer to the physical order of sheets in the PDF.
Private, local processing
The watermark is added inside your browser with an established PDF library. The selected document is not uploaded to FigureOwl, and the downloaded copy has no FigureOwl branding. Complex or very large PDFs may require more memory than a phone or older computer can provide.
A watermark is not access control
A visible watermark communicates status or attribution, but it does not encrypt the file, stop copying or guarantee ownership. Someone with suitable editing software may remove or replace it. Use proper permissions, password protection and a controlled sharing process when access must be restricted.
