Check common PDF properties before sharing
A PDF can contain document properties that are not visible on its pages, including a title, author name, subject, keywords, creation software and timestamps. This tool displays supported fields first, then creates a separate copy without the standard information dictionary, document-level XMP metadata and PDF document identifier.
How to remove supported PDF metadata
- Choose one PDF from your device.
- Review the supported metadata detected in the document.
- Select Remove supported metadata.
- Open the downloaded copy and confirm that its pages still look and behave as expected.
What this tool is designed to remove
The rewritten copy removes the standard PDF information dictionary, including common title, author, subject, keyword, creator, producer and date fields. It also removes a document-level XMP metadata stream and the trailer document identifier when present. The original file remains unchanged.
Metadata removal is not anonymization
Names, email addresses, account numbers and other identifying details can still appear visibly in the document or inside page content. File names, sharing-account records and information retained by another service are outside the PDF itself. Review the document and your delivery method rather than assuming that clearing properties makes a file anonymous.
Not a replacement for sanitization or redaction
Professional PDF sanitization can address comments, attachments, scripts, form values, hidden layers, embedded files and other structures. Proper redaction permanently removes sensitive page content. This browser tool has a narrower purpose and must not be used as proof that every hidden element has been removed.
Digital signatures may stop validating
Rewriting a PDF changes its bytes. An existing cryptographic signature can become invalid even when its visible appearance remains on a page. Verify signed documents with the issuing workflow before sharing or relying on the cleaned copy.
Private browser processing
Inspection and metadata removal run locally with an established open-source PDF library. FigureOwl does not receive or store the selected document. Password-protected, damaged or unusually complex files may require dedicated desktop software.
